Former OHA Edmonton coach Derrick Martin has been named Head Coach in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Kelowna Rockets.
Martin joined the Rockets for the 2024/25 WHL season as an assistant coach before being named interim Head Coach on January 10th. Martin will now ditch the interim title, taking over the reigns as the Rockets host the Memorial Cup in 2025/26.
The Vermilion, AB product spent the 2023/24 season as GM and Head Coach of the Camrose Kodiaks leading them to a 22-28-7 record in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL).
Prior to his time in the AJHL Martin spent two years in the 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) with OHA Edmonton. During the 2022/23 U15 Prep season he led his team to a 14-13-0 record and playoff berth at the 2023 CSSHL Western Championships. He would also serve as the Team Alberta Video Coach at the Canada Winter Games.
During the 2021/22 U16 Prep season OHA Edmonton would finish in fifth placing going 19-16-1 under Martin’s command.
