GAME DAY RECAP: November 6-8, 2024

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (2) vs RHA Winnipeg (4) U17 Prep

After a quiet 15 minutes, RHA Winnipeg scored three times in the final 3:28 of the first as Knox Burton (2G) found the back of the net twice, including once shorthanded, and Sam Grunewald tallied his third of the season. Brody Wytinck scored the lone second period goal 1:15 in to get Pilot Mound on the board going into the third. Isaac Sousa (1G, 1A) and Collin Friedrich traded goals midway through the frame as Pilot Mound was unable to cut into the deficit and RHA Winnipeg grabbed a 4-2 win.听

RHA Winnipeg (1) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (6) U15 Prep

Pilot Mound (5-7-1) defeated RHA Winnipeg (6-12-0) 6-1 Wednesday in a Battle of Manitoba. Brett Buors scored the lone first period goal as Pilot Mount led after 20. Maddox Ramage (2G) scored 19 seconds into the second to increase the lead before him and Matteo Grieco gave Pilot Mound a four goal cushion. Brady Filmon got RHA Winnipeg on the board just one minute later but Matsun Adams (1G, 1A) responded 24 seconds after that and Cole Landreville (1G, 3A) added a power play marker. Yuki Kido (35/36) kept a clean sheet in the third to secure the Pilot Mound victory. DJ Mecas (32/38) was charged with the loss.听

North Shore Warriors (8) vs Notre Dame (0) U18 Prep

The Warriors opened up their U18 Prep Showcase in Winnipeg, MB with an offensive onslaught against Notre Dame. Saskatoon Blades prospect Tristan Hoko (3G) nabbed a hat-trick including the opening and closing goals in this contest while Jonathan Lee (1G, 3A) reached the four-point mark with a goal and three helpers. Brooke Davis (11/11) was in the crease, making 11-saves for the first win and shutout from a female goaltender in U18 Prep history.

Okanagan Hockey Ontario (2) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (3) U18 Prep

Jeremy Clark (1G, 1A) got the ball rolling early for OHO, wiring home a wrister from the right circle to establish the initial lead. Early in the second, PHA would find their first goal of the weekend as Ryland Molde (1G, 1A) tied the game. We fast forward to the third still knotted up a 1-1 into the late stages of the frame. With just over four minutes remaining, Philippe Walsh would put OHO ahead with a very similar goal to Clark. However, just under a minute later, Moose Jaw, SK native Kale Pratte would polish off a beautiful passing play between Molde and Henry Thunderblanket to once again tie up this contest. Under a minute later, PHA would be granted their first lead of the game with a blistering shot off the stick of Noah Kelly, enough to put PHA in the win column to start their U18 Prep showcase. Micah Davidson (17/19) made 17-saves in the victory.

Coeur d鈥橝lene Hockey Academy (8) vs Indigenous Sports Academy (1) U18 Prep

Coeur d鈥橝lene had no issue finding the back of the net in their first matchup with ISA at the U18 Prep Showcase. Aleksandr Skuratov (2G) led the way with CDA鈥檚 opening tally, nabbing a pair through sixty minutes of play. Carter Kipp would pick up the eventual game winner. Emery Medicine Shield would snap the clean sheet with a shorthanded goal in the second, but Bennett Byers (23/24) would still walk away with 23-saves in the win.

Lower Canada College (10) vs Mount Academy (1) East U17

After a scoreless first, David Fellen (2G, 1A) would get LCC on the scoresheet just 25-seconds into the second. Shortly after Fellen鈥檚 opener, Jace Hynes would rally one back for Mount Academy. However, LCC would find their groove in due time, scoring two lates goals in the second to establish a two goal lead into the intermission. LCC would continue to pile on the offence in the third, racking up seven goals to put this game to rest. Along with Fellen, Mario Lepenna (2G, 1A) would nab a pair and an assist while Harry Miller (1G, 3A) was atop of the scoresheet with a four point performance.听

Mount Academy (3) vs Bourget College (6) East U18

Mount Academy may have been ousted in the shots department, but their offence continued to shine in key moments through the opening forty, establishing 1-0 and 2-1 leads in the first and second, but would fall in quick fashion each time to Bourget鈥檚 hungry offence. Come the third, Bourget was able to find their rhythm, scoring four unanswered to solidify a 6-2 lead at its peak. Mathys Morrissette and Olivier Tetreault (1G, 1A) would each score a shorthanded marker for Bourget while Maxemile Richard (2G) left the ice with a pair of goals himself. Roey Vered (14/17) left this game with the win, but a strong performance from 2010-born goaltender Cedrick Provencher (45/51) gave Mount Academy a chance in this contest, racking up 45-saves and an assist in the loss.听

Yale Hockey Academy (4/OT) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (3) U18 Prep

After breaking up the play at Yale鈥檚 blueline, Alexander Jacques would carry the puck up and get a shot off, leading to Evan Cook burying the rebound to put Yale ahead early off a shorthanded tally. Brady Whitehead would respond soon after for NAX, clapping home a one-timer in the slot off a feed from Macklin Dobko. Prince George Cougars prospect Ollie Reid would put Yale ahead once again later in the frame but another quick response from NAX erased their lead. In the second, Gavin Harrison (1G, 1A) would score the lone goal for NAX to give them their first lead of the contest heading into the third. The score would remain 3-2 until Yale decided to pull Nathan Kam (19/22) in the final minutes. With the goalie pulled, Eli Barrett (2G) would get a fortunate shot off that found the back of the net forcing an overtime. Only 44-seconds into the extra frame, Barrett would strike yet again, handing NAX their first loss of the season and igniting Yale鈥檚 U18 Prep showcases with an important victory.

Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (1) vs Calgary International Hockey Academy (6) U18 Prep

Nearing the end of the opening frame, Cage Smith (2G) would put CIHA on the board with a dipsy-doodle around Nathaniel Madrigal (38/44). Smith鈥檚 goal would set the tone for the second as CIHA would bury four unanswered to establish a five goal lead into the final frame. Dylan Crossley would pick up his sixth of the season late in the third to snap Cole Prelusky鈥檚 (24/25) shutout but Noah Milford (1G, 2A) would grab a consolation goal late to restore CIHA鈥檚 five goal lead, sealing up an impressive win to start off the weekend for the Calgary-based squad.

Okanagan Hockey Academy (7) vs Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (2) U17 Prep

Maxx Parfitt (1G, 1A) would score the opening goal just 15-seconds into play after an early Wenatchee icing. Luke Assi (2G, 2A) and Marcus Domhof (1G, 1A) would add another quick opening pair just over three minutes later for OHA. OHA would add an extra in the second courtesy of Ethan Dimand (1G, 1A), allowing for some smooth sailing into the third. Wenatchee would garner two back in the final frame, but another three tallies from OHA silenced any chance at a comeback. In the loss, Liam Rogers (59/66) posted an immense 59-saves for Wenatchee.

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (6) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (2) U18 Prep

Pacific Coast led 3-0 after 40 as Elliott Hill scored in the first and Drew Stinka and Jed Lake scored in the second. Fresh off being named the October POTM, Austin Polonoski got Pilot Mound on the board 2:33 into the third. Madden Cruickshank (1G, 1A) responded for PCHA less than three minutes later though Jaden Mah gave PMHA late life with his fifth of the season. Sullivan Humeniuk (1G, 1A) would end any Pilot Mount comeback hopes 1:40 later and Roman Lavery added an empty net marker. Liam Russell (21/23) made 21 saves in net for the win.听

Okanagan Hockey Academy (2) vs Edge School (0) U18 Prep

In a rematch of last year鈥檚 semi-final that took a shootout to decide, OHA was able to exact some revenge with a 2-0 shutout win over OHA. After a scoreless first period Simon Cecconi gave OHA a lead late in the second with his first goal of the season. Tucker Robertson doubled the lead midway through the third with a power play goal. Edge would make a third period push, firing 12 shots at Chayse Johnson (26/26), who stood tall to give his team the 2-0 win. Ryley Budd (22/24) made 22 saves in the loss.听

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (3) vs RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (6) U15 Prep

After Pilot Mound defeated RHA Winnipeg 6-1 on Wednesday, RHA Winnipeg would flip the script and claim a 6-3 win Friday. Brady Filmon (2G, 2A) opened the scoring for the homeside 8:33 in but Cole Landreville (2G) hit double digit goals just 45 seconds later. Markus Knaub restored the lead heading into the second where RHA Winnipeg would take over with three straight goals. Athens Shingoose (2G, 3A) scored his 11th of the year and Filmon and Shingoose scored 22 seconds apart later in the period. Landreville found the back of the net again early in the third but it was quickly cancelled out by Aiden Moen. Brody Kaminski scored a power play goal with 1:12 remaining to round out the scoring.听

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (1) vs OHA Edmonton (2) U18 Prep

Special teams would be the difference in this one as OHA Edmonton scored twice on the power play to take a 2-1 victory. Neither team found the back of the net in the first before Nolan Schmidt (1G, 1A) opened the scoring 9:12 into the second for OHA Edmonton. Aidan Fisher tied the game 5:48 into the third before Calum Giese scored the game winner with 3:02 left on the clock. Parker Snell (30/31) and Louis Gu (46/48) were in net for their respective teams.

South Alberta Hockey Academy (3) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (4) U17 Prep

Matthew Cameron-Skidmore and Kyle Denis each scored their fourth goal of the season as the first period ended tied 1-1. After a scoreless second Jackson Tetreault and Brody Dawson scored 36 seconds apart early in the third to put NAX ahead. Emmett Jones (1G, 1A) would extend the lead 6:48 later as NAX looked to run away with this one. But Carson Ward cut into the deficit late and Brennan Finke scored with 37 seconds left as SAHA climbed within one. However, the comeback would ultimately fall short as Matthew Coyle (29/32) finished with 29 saves to give NAX the 4-3 win.听

Indigenous Sports Academy (6/OT) vs Notre Dame (5) U17 Prep

Notre Dame led 2-0 after 20 as Jesse Schaefer and Sam Carnegie (1G, 1A) scored 2:26 apart midway through the opening period. Jace Boman added to the lead just 32 seconds into the second with a power play goal. Ryder Cardinal (2G, 1A) got ISA on the board 6:22 later with a shorthanded marker. Michael Camponi (1G, 1A) restored the three goal lead minutes later but ISA wouldn鈥檛 go away quietly as Cardinal, Chaunde Jack and Carsen Chipesia (2G) all scored in a 5:10 span to close out the second. Hudson Albert gave ISA the first lead of the game 7:35 into the third but it was short lived as Trystan Hamming (1G, 1A) tied the game 26 seconds later. Both teams would have their chances to close the game out in regulation but ultimate overtime was needed. Chipesia would be the ISA hero, scoring his second of the game and season with 23 seconds remaining.

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (2) vs Yale Hockey Academy (3) U15

Shay Van Slyke (26/26) and Jace Zemanek (40/43) kept Yale scoreless through 40 with a combined 43 saves, while a goal 19 seconds in by Jacob Gillie had Pacific Coast ahead 1-0. Mylar Cormier (2G) would finally break through for Yale 3:05 into the third period. Hudson Elke (1G, 1A) would restore the PCHA lead just 1:10 later as Pacific Coast (4-9-0) remained in position to complete the upset and hand Yale (14-0-0) their first loss of the season. But Cormier would tie the game with 57 seconds left and Carter Di Stefano broke the PCHA hearts with a buzzer beater with 1 second remaining. Logan Hwang (16/18) made 16 saves to record the win.听

Delta Hockey Academy (7) vs Yale Hockey Academy (3) U15 Prep

Delta came racing out the gates as they scored five first period goals en route to a 7-3 win. Tripp Fischer (3G) scored twice while Ryker Doka (1G, 1A), Ethan Kitchen and Colton Brum (2G, 1A) all tallied one goal of their own to give their team a commanding lead. Fischer would complete the hat-trick midway through the second before Matthew Zaitchikov (2G) got Yale on the board with a power play marker late in the second. Yianni Sergiannidis and Zaitchikov opened the third with goals but Brum ended any comeback hopes late in the game with his second of the evening. Quinn Coupland (26/29) made 26 saves for the win.听

BWC Academy (5) vs RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (4) U18 Prep

The first two goals of the game came with RHA Winnipeg on the penalty kill as Lukas Lima (2G) scored on the power play and Drayden Uhrina replied with a shorthanded marker. River Arnason gave RHA Winnipeg the lead just 22 seconds later with his 15th goal of the season. BWC Academy would take over in the second as Lima, Max Malinousky (1G, 1A) and Jonathan Bitonti (2G) all found the back of the net. Layne Schofield and Cohen Lewko scored early in the third to tie the game but Bitonti tallied his second of the game with just 1:25 left to give BWC Academy the 5-4 win.听

Delta Hockey Academy (3) vs South Alberta Hockey Academy (8) U18 Prep

Ty Hynes (2G, 2A) scored 4:48 into the game but Delta led 2-1 after 20 as Javien Mann (2G) scored back to back goals. The tide would quickly turn as Luke Ruptash (2G) and Hynes scored nine seconds apart and Cole Fisher (1G, 1A) added his sixth of the season midway through the second. Ruptash would score 28 seconds into the third to extend the lead before Mac Leonard finally halted the run. But SAHA would continue to run away with it as Josiah Jackson (1G, 1A), Kingston Chisholm and Koray Bozkaya (1G, 4A)听 all found the back of the net for SAHA in an 8-3 win. Kannen Kirkwood (45/48) and Greyson Moroz (48/56) each faced 45-plus shots in net.听

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (2) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (8) U15

NAX (11-1-1) remained hot with an 8-2 win over RHA Kelowna (5-9-0) Friday. Mohamed Garcia (2G, 1A) and Gavin Van Brabant (2G, 2A) each scored twice while Jett Evans (1G, 4A) led all skaters with five points. Cooper deWal and Harrison Sharman each scored for RHA Kelowna in the loss, who got 40 saves from Griffin Prairie Chicken (40/48).听

Edge School (5) vs Notre Dame (1) U17

After a scoreless first Ryder Pisiak gave Notre Dame the lead 6:42 into the second. But Edge would dominate the remaining 33 minutes as Evan Lynch, Darius Odermatt, Henry Doucette and Sam Mclean scored in the second while Ashmit Bubbar posted his third of the season late in the third to give Edge the 5-1 win. Mikai Mast (12/13) and Nathan Thompson (27/32) were in net for their respective teams.听

Delta Hockey Academy (2/OT) vs BWC Academy (1) U17

It took 45 minutes for either Blake Langdon (28/29) or Liam Kellett (49/51) to give an inch as the two netminders were mere perfect in this one. Nishaan Grewal broke through 5:45 into the third to give BWC Academy the lead and Jack Triance scored with 5:45 left to tie the game and force overtime. Delta would complete the comeback when Otto Puhakka scored on the power play 2:22 into the extra frame.
