The Kamloops Blazers have named CSSHL coaches Steve Marr and Brayden Toma to their coaching staff ahead of the 2025/26 WHL season.
North Shore Warriors U15 Prep Head Coach Steve Marr and St. George’s School U18 Prep Head Coach Brayden Toma have both been named as an Assistant Coach with the Blazers.
Marr, who is originally from Kamloops, BC, played four seasons in the WHL with the Medicine Hat Tigers recording 44 points and 330 penalty minutes in 242 games.
The defensemen would make the jump to the pro ranks in 2005/06, splitting the season between the AHL and ECHL with the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben-Knights and the Las Vegas Wranglers. He would spend the 2006/07 season in the AHL with the Knights before playing for the Rockford IceHogs and Pensacola Ice Pilots in 2007/08.听Marr would head to Germany in 2008/09, playing for Herner EV 2007 in the German third tier for his final year of pro hockey.
Marr would begin coaching in the 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) during the 2017/18 season, spending three seasons as the West Van Academy (now the North Shore Warriors) U18 Prep head coach. Marr would go 9-25-2 his first season, but he laid a foundation that would lead West Van to a 40-26-6 record the following two seasons.
After a three year hiatus from the CSSHL, Marr returned to the North Shore Warriors in 2023/24, this time with their U15 Prep team. In two seasons with the Warriors U15 Prep team Marr would lead them to a 16-40-6 record while producing three 2025 WHL Draft picks.
During his tenure with the Warriors, Marr coached future NHLers Connor Bedard and Fraser Minten.
Toma, a Sherwood Park, AB product, boasts an impressive resume within the CSSHL having won three CSSHL Western Championships in five seasons.
He would join the league as an assistant coach with the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) in 2017/18, before taking over as head coach of the Elite 15s (U16 Prep) team in 2018/19. That season he would lead NAX to a 2019 CSSHL Western Championship. He would have his team sitting in first place heading into the 2020 CSSHL Western Championships before they were ultimately cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2021/22 he would lead the NAX U15 Prep team to a 29-1-0 regular season record before falling short with a shootout loss in the semi-finals. Under his guidance, NAX would again finish the regular season in first place in 2022/23 before capturing their first ever CSSHL U15 Prep Western Championship with an overtime win. Toma and NAX would defend their title in 2023/24, as they beat first-place Edge School in overtime of the 2024 CSSHL Western Championships. In his three seasons with the NAX U15 Prep team, Toma would produce 38 WHL Draft picks.
Toma would head west to Vancouver, BC for the 2024/25 season as the Head Coach of the St. George’s School U18 Prep team. St. George’s would go 20-12-4 under his guidance, finishing in seventh place in the regular season before being eliminated by the eventual U18 Prep Champions, RHA Kelowna, in the playoffs.
In his six CSSHL seasons, Toma led his teams to a regular season record of 154-33-8.
