35 Current CSSHL Student-Athletes Compete at U18 Women’s Nationals

35 current 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) student-athletes represented their respective provinces at the 2024 U18 Women’s National Championships this past week.

The tournament took place November 3-9, 2024 in Quispamsis, NB, the first time the event took place in Atlantic Canada. Eight teams competed to be crowned national champions with Alberta, Atlantic, Ontario Red and Saskatchewan competing in Pool A, while Pool B consisted of Team British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario Blue and Quebec.

Among the eight teams included 35 current CSSHL student-athletes. Team B.C. led the way with 17 CSSHL student-athletes, Manitoba 8, Alberta 7 and Saskatchewan 3. The 34 student-athletes came from 9 CSSHL member programs: RHA Kelowna (15), Delta Hockey Academy (5), Balmoral Hall School (3), Edge School (3), Shawnigan Lake School (3), RHA Winnipeg (2), South Alberta Hockey Academy (2), Northern Alberta Xtreme (1) and Okanagan Hockey Academy (1)

Team Saskatchewan

At the conclusion of the round robin BC (2-1-0) and Saskatchewan (2-1-0) were each second in their pool. Alberta (1-2-0) and Manitoba (1-2-0) were third and fourth in their respective pools. In the quarter-finals BC beat Alberta 6-1, Manitoba lost 6-0 to Ontario Red, and Saskatchewan beat Ontario Blue 5-2.

Saskatchewan would lose a heartbreaker in the semi’s 2-1 to Quebec, while BC lost 4-1 to the eventual champions, Ontario Red. BC would take home a bronze medal with a 4-2 win over Saskatchewan.

Rice finished tied for the tournament lead with six points, while her four goals were second. Maynard led the tournament with five assists earning the Top Defence Award.
