Four 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) alumni have been selected to represent Team Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship.

The 10 team tournament will take place December 26-Jan. 5 in Ottawa, ON. Four CSSHL alumni will represent Team Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championships.

The four CSSHL alumni selected to represent Team Canada are:

  • Carson Bjarnason – Brandon Wheat Kings/WHL (RHA Winnipeg)
  • Gavin McKenna – Medicine Hat Tigers/WHL (RHA Kelowna/South Alberta Hockey Academy)
  • Tanner Molendyk – Saskatoon Blades/WHL (Yale Hockey Academy)
  • Sawyer Mynio – Seattle Thunderbirds/WHL (Yale Hockey Academy)

A first round pick by the Nashville Predators at the 2023 NHL Draft, Molendyk is one of five returning players who represented Canada at the 2024 World Juniors. Bjarnason will represent Team Canada for the third time. The 2023 2nd round NHL Pick by the Philadelphia Flyers won gold at the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and Bronze at the 2023 U18 World Championships.

McKenna, who is expected to be the first overall pick at the 2026 NHL Draft, has won gold for Canada at the 2024 IIHF U18 World Championships and the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. This will be the first time Mynio, a Vancouver Canucks 2023 third round pick, represents Team Canada on the international stage.

The 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship begins on Boxing Day with Canada kicking off its tournament schedule against Finland, while the United States will play Germany. The two teams will meet on Dec. 31 to wrap up preliminary-round action. The knock-out round will begin with the quarter-finals on January 2.

12 former 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) student-athletes have been selected to represent Team Canada at the 2024 U17 World Challenge.

The tournament, which is set to take place November 3-9 at Progressive Auto Sales Arena in Sarnia, ON, will see 44 players represent Team Canada White and Team Canada Red.

Among the 44 players selected are 15 from the WHL, 12 of which played in the CSSHL including 2023 and 2024 WHL Draft first overall picks Daxon Rudolph and Landon DuPont. After joining fellow CSSHL alumnus Connor Bedard as the only two players in WHL History to receive Exceptional Status, DuPont is the lone 2009 born player on the Team Canada rosters.

The 12 CSSHL alumni represent six different CSSHL member programs: Okanagan Hockey Academy (3), RHA Kelowna (3), Edge School (2), Northern Alberta Xtreme (2), Delta Hockey Academy, and Pilot Mound Hockey Academy.

Canada Red:

  • Carson Carels, Prince George Cougars (Pilot Mound Hockey Academy)
  • Landon DuPont, Everett Silvertips (Edge School)
  • Joe Iginla, Edmonton Oil Kings (RHA Kelowna)

This will be the second time Lin, Preston, L. Ruck, M. Ruck, Rudolph, and Verhoeff represent Team Canada, having previously done so at the 2024 Youth Olympics.

The 2024 U17 World Challenge kicks off on November 3, with Canada White taking on Czechia at 3:30 p.m. ET and Canada Red facing off against Finland at 7:30 p.m. ET. Teams will play two preliminary-round games before the medal round, which concludes on Nov. 9 with the medal games, as well as the fifth-place game. The event will also feature pre-tournament games in Sarnia, Petrolia and Forest on November 1.

The 2023 U17 World Challenge saw 13 CSSHL alumni compete for Team Canada Red and White.聽

The Brandon Wheat Kings have signed CSSHL student-athletes Ben Binder Nord and Dylan Ronald to WHL Scholarship and Development Agreements.

Binder Nord joined Edge School during the 2020/21 U15 AAA season. The following U15 Prep campaign he would record 18 points in 28 games. In 2022/23 the Calgary, AB forward finished with 11 goals and 15 assists in 28 games. This past U18 Prep campaign he tallied 4 goals and 8 assists in 26 games. He would add 2 assists in 5 playoff games as Edge were crowned CSSHL U18 Prep Western Champions.

A defenseman from Ponoka, AB, Ronald joined the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) for the 2021/22 U16 Prep campaign. In 34 games he would record 24 points before adding 3 points in 5 playoff games as NAX took home the 2022 CSSHL U16 Prep Western Championship title. Ronald would record 14 points in 19 U18 Prep games the following season. He would start the 2023/24 season back with the NAX U18 Prep team before joining the Drumheller Dragons in the AJHL, finishing with 3 points in 18 games.

Both Binder Nord and Ronald were undrafted to the WHL.

Former Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) student-athlete Brett Hyland has signed an AHL contract with the Hershey Bears.

Hyland recently wrapped up his fifth and final season in the WHL with the Brandon Wheat Kings. After making his WHL debut in 2019/20, Hyland recorded 145 points in 195 WHL games.

The Edmonton, AB forward spent the 2017/18 season with the NAX U15 Prep team tallying 35 points in 17 games. The Wheat Kings would select him in the second round, 24th overall at the 2018 WHL Draft.

Hyland was originally selected by the Washington Capitals at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft in the seventh round, 200th overall.

Former CSSHL student-athletes Emmitt Finnie and Connor Ungar have signed NHL Entry Level Contracts.

Finnie spent three seasons in the CSSHL with Yale Hockey Academy. The Lethbridge, AB forward joined the program in 2018/19, playing for their U15, U15 Prep and U18 Prep team. In 65 total games he would record 51 goals and 56 assists. After being selected in the fourth round, 82nd overall at the 2020 WHL Draft by the Kamloops Blazers, Finnie would join the club in 2021/22, tallying 6 points in 48 games.

Last season he would finish with 35 points in 64 games which lead the Detroit Red Wings to select him in the seventh round of the 2023 NHL Draft. This season Finnie finished with 59 points in 62 WHL games with the Blazers.

A goaltender from Calgary, AB, Ungar joined the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) U16 Prep team in 2017/18, winning a CSSHL Western Championship that year. He would start the following season with the NAX U18 Prep team before splitting the second half of the year between the AJHL with the Okotoks Oilers, and the WHL with the Brandon Wheat Kings. Undrafted to the WHL, Ungar would bounce around between the Wheat Kings and the AJHL’s Whitecourt Wolverines for the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons.

Ungar would spend the entirety of the 2021/22 season in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels before joining the Moose Jaw Warriors for the 2022/23 WHL season. He would finish his WHL career with a 2.57GAA, .917SV%, 3 shutouts and a 53-20-2 record in 87 total games.

This season Ungar joined Brock University where he was named a USports (OUA West) All-Rookie Team, First Team All-Star, Goaltender of the Year and Rookie of the Year after posting a 2.15GAA and .932SV% in 26 games. Ungar was undrafted to the NHL but has signed with the Edmonton Oilers.

The CSSHL has announced the six division winners of the January Player of the Month.

U15: Aiden Andrews – RHA Kelowna

With 11 goals and 7 assists in 6 games in January the Vancouver, BC forward now sits second in team scoring with 40 points in 25 games. His 23 goals are most on his team and rank seventh among all U15 skaters. Last season Andrews tallied 13 points in 27 U15 games with RHA Kelowna.

U15 Prep: Ryker Doka – Notre Dame Hounds

With 18 points in 12 games this season Doka sits 12th among all U15 Prep defensemen. His 1.50 points per game is second among defensemen only to Brock Cripps (3.00). In five games in January the Regina, SK product recorded five goals and eight assists. After starting the season with 0 points in his first 4 games, he has since tallied 18 points in his last 8 games.

U17 Prep: Cole Fisher – South Alberta Hockey Academy

A forward from Dunmore, AB, Fisher tallied 11 goals and 8 assists in 8 games in January. Selected in the 11th round of the 2022 WHL Draft by the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Fisher currently leads his team in goals (15) and points (30) in 19 games. Fisher spent last season with the Edge School U17 Prep team, tallying 14 points in 29 games.

U18 Prep: Brendyn Van Oene – Shawnigan Lake School

A 2022 WHL Draft ninth round pick by the Brandon Wheat Kings, Van Oene tallied 7 goals and 8 assists in just 3 games in January. On the season he sits second in team and 10th in league scoring with 46 points in 27 games. Now in his third CSSHL season, the Shawnigan Lake, BC forward has 142 points in 95 career CSSHL games.

Female Prep: Morgan Jackson – Shawnigan Lake School

Jackson tallied 7 goals and 10 assists in 4 games in January, bringing her season total to 51 points in 16 games, second most in the Female Prep division. In 42 career CSSHL games the Courtney, BC forward has 109 points. Committed to Northeastern University for the 2024/25 NCAA season, Jackson has represented Team Canada U18 twice, winning gold in 2023 and bronze in 2024.

Eastern U18: Gabriel Le Houillier – Bishop’s College School

With 5 goals and 7 assists in just 2 games, Le Houillier and Bishop’s burst onto the scene in January, having not played and CSSHL games in 2023. The Lorraine, QC forward currently sits with 8 goals and 11 assists in 5 games. His 3.80 points-per-game is best among all Eastern U18 Prep skaters.

Former CSSHL student-athletes Carson Bjarnason and Aidan De La Gorgendiere have signed professional contracts.

Bjarnason, a second round, 51st overall pick at the 2023 NHL Draft has signed an NHL Entry Level Contract with the Philadelphia Flyers. The Carberry, MB netminder is currently in his third Western Hockey League (WHL) season with the Brandon Wheat Kings. In 72 career WHL games Bjarnason has a 30-30-6 record, 3 shutouts, .894 SV% and 3.37 GAA.

Prior to his time in the WHL, Bjarnason played the 2020/21 CSSHL U16 Prep season with RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg. In聽 games he would post a 2.01 GAA and .914 SV%.

A defenceman from Abbotsford, BC, De La Gorgendiere spent three seasons in the CSSHL. He joined Delta Hockey Academy for the 2015/16 U15 season, recording 28 points in 24 games. He would add one point in four playoff games as Delta captured a 2016 CSSHL Western U15 Championship.

De La Gorgendiere would suit-up for the Yale Hockey Academy U15 Prep team the following season, finishing with 26 points in 30 games. The Saskatoon Blades would then select him in the first round, fifth overall at the 2017 WHL Draft. De La Gorgendiere would spend one more season with Yale, tallying 17 points in 19 U18 Prep games.

In 2018/19 he would join the Blades, spending five seasons with the team, including two as team captain. In 248 WHL games De La Gorgendiere finished with 22 goals and 133 assists. In 2022/23 he had a career season, recording 65 points in 65 games.

The Atlanta Gladiators have signed De La Gorgendiere for the 2023/24 ECHL season.

Former CSSHL student-athletes Cole Dubinsky and Riley Ginnell have signed ECHL Contracts ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Dubinsky originally joined the CSSHL with Okanagan Hockey Academy for the 2015/16 U15 Prep season, recording 8 points in 25 games. The Ardrossan, AB forward would return home in 2016/17, playing for the OHA Edmonton U15 Prep season. After recording 30 points in 22 games that season the Regina Pats would select him in the fourth round, 79th overall at the 2017 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft. Dubinsky would finish his CSSHL career with the Delta Hockey Academy U18 Prep team, tallying 30 points in 34 games.

Dubinsky would go on to play 203 WHL games with the Pats, recording 103 points during that time. He would finish his WHL career with the Prince George Cougars, totalling 25 points in 29 games with the team this season. Dubinsky has signed with the Maine Mariners for the 2023/24 season.

Ginnell played one season in the CSSHL with the Edge School U18 Prep team. That season the Calgary, AB forward would score 10 goals and assist on 9 more in 24 games. Selected in the seventh round, 151st overall by the Kamloops Blazers at the 2017 WHL Draft, Ginnell would begin his WHL career in 2019/20 with the Brandon Wheat Kings. He would play 113 games and tally 47 points over 4 seasons with the club. He would split the 2022/23 seasons with the Moose Jaw Warriors and Regina, ending his season with 19 points in 50 games.

The Rapid City Rush have signed Ginnell for the 2023/24 ECHL season.

The Sherwood Park Crusaders have signed five current or former 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) student-athletes for the 2023/24 Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) season.

Quinn Abbott played three seasons in the CSSHL. The North Vancouver, BC defenseman joined West Van Academy for the 2018/19 U15 season, finishing with 17 points in 30 games. The following year he would tally 5 points in 24 U15 Prep games with West Van. Abbott spent the 2022/23 season with the BWC Academy U18 Prep team. In 32 games he scored 5 goals and assisted on 19 more.

A defenseman from Cobden, ON, Wyatt Davis played two seasons in the CSSHL with Notre Dame. He would play seven games for Notre Dame U15 Prep team in 2019/20, recording two assists. In 2021/22 Davis would finish fourth in team scoring while leading all Notre Dame U17 Prep defensemen with 12 goals, 23 assists and 35 points in 30 games.

Originally from St. John’s, NL, Conor Ryan headed west to Shawnigan Lake School for the 2022/23 U18 Prep season. In 32 games he would finish fifth in team scoring while leading Shawnigan defensemen with 9 goals, 19 assists and 28 points.

Selected in the seventh round, 142nd overall by the Prince George Cougars at the 2021 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft, Garrett Thom spent two seasons in the CSSHL with OHA Edmonton, During the 2020/21 season the Edmonton, AB forward recorded three points in three U15 Prep games. The following season Thom would tally 6 goals and 11 assists in 33 U18 Prep games. He would play in four games for the Crusaders this past season, finishing with one goal.

A forward from Wimborne, AB, Drew Williamson joined the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) for the 2022/23 U18 Prep season. In 33 games the seventh round, 152nd overall selection by the Brandon Wheat Kings at the 2021 WHL Draft, would record 6 goals and 16 assists.

The Detroit Red Wings have signed former Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) student-athlete Nate Danielson to an NHL Entry Level Contract.

The Red Wings drafted Danielson in the first round, ninth overall at the 2023 NHL Draft. It was the third straight NHL Draft a former NAX forward was selected ninth overall as Dylan Guenther (Arizona Coyotes/2021) and Matthew Savoie (Buffalo Sabres/2022) both hold this honour.

Danielson spent the 2019/20 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) U18 Prep season with NAX. The Red Deer, AB forward would finish third on his team and 11th in the league with 60 points in 27 games. That season Danielson would represent Team Canada at the Youth Olympics, tallying three points in four games as Canada captured a bronze medal.

Selected fifth overall at the 2019 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft by the Brandon Wheat Kings, Danielson would join the team for the 2020/21 season, finishing with 15 points in 24 games. During the 2021/22 season Danielson would produce 23 goals and 34 assists in 53 WHL games.

This season Danielson was named co-captain of the Wheat Kings while recording team bests 33 goals, 45 assists and 78 points in 68 games. At the conclusion of the season he would be named to the WHL East Second All-Star Team.
